Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ Financial Aid for Off-Campus Programs
Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ grants and scholarships travel with you. Institutional grants and scholarships will be applied to the cost of a Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ-approved off-campus study program.
Note: Effective Fall 2025, institutional grants and scholarships will not apply to subsequent off-campus programs in the case of multiple off-campus program participation.

Understanding Program Costs
The easiest way to understand program costs is to request an estimate from the Financial Aid office. Do this by emailing the Financial Aid office at Financial.Aid@lawrence.edu letting them know the program and term you are considering. Financial Aid will send you a side-by-side estimate of what you could expect to pay for an off-campus program versus the corresponding term(s) on campus.
In general, off-campus program costs can be broken down into three or four parts: tuition, program fee, health insurance, additional costs.
Tuition
For students participating in Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ-approved off-campus programs one of two tuition rates will apply*:
- Regular Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ tuition for term-length programs (typically less than 12 weeks) - $18,890 for 2024-2025
- Semester Tuition Rate for semester-length programs (typically longer than 12 weeks; usually 15-16 weeks) - $20,780 for 2024-2025
*Note: If the program tuition is higher than the applicable Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ term or off-campus semester tuition, the student will be billed the difference.Â
Program Fee
In lieu of on-campus room and board, students will be billed a program fee - assessed by the off-campus program they are attending. The program fee typically covers housing and may include meals, depending on the program. Additionally, your program fee may include costs for local transportation, excursions, etc. To understand what is covered under your program's program fees, please see cost information available on each program's website, found here: Programs.
Health Insurance
All students traveling internationally on an off-campus program (or for LU-funded/-affiliated independent student research) are required to carry an approved international health insurance plan. The Off-Campus Programs office will automatically enroll students in , and students will be charged $51.25 per month through their student account for insurance. Note: Students on an IES-sponsored program will carry insurance through the program provider and will not need university-provided insurance.
Out-of-Pocket Costs
Examples of these may include application fees, confirmation deposits, airline tickets, phone costs, etc. Further information is available on each program's website, linked via our Program pages.
Questions about Cost?
Let us help! Make an appointment with an OCP advisor. We can help you understand the costs, billing, and funding options for programs.
Billing
Confirmation Deposit - Charged to the student directly
Upon acceptance into any program, you will need to pay a one-time confirmation deposit. This is to hold your space in the program. Unlike tuition and program fees, the confirmation deposit will be billed directly to you, the student. For programs like the London Centre and Senegal, which are run by Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ, you will be able to pay your confirmation deposit through Voyager. For all other programs, you will be billed directly by the program provider. Please note, the amount of the confirmation deposit will be credited toward program costs when you are billed for your program.
Tuition and Program Fees - Charged through student account
After the confirmation deposit, billing will be handled through your Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ student account - that includes all tuition and program fees. If you receive a bill directly from the program after the confirmation deposit has been paid, please contact the Off-Campus Programs office as this may have been done in error.
Refunds
Ñî¹óåú´«Ã½ÊÓƵ honors the refund, cancellation, and withdrawal policies of our partner institutions. Once you accept placement in a program, the program provider begins preparations for your participation. If, after you commit to a program, you decide to withdraw, you may be held accountable for some or all of the costs incurred on your behalf. You should make sure to review all cancellation policies for the organization providing your program.
Scholarships and Funding
In addition to your financial aid package, there are a variety of other scholarships for you to apply to: for example, the Off-Campus Programs scholarship, scholarships from program providers, and other outside scholarships.
OCP Scholarship
All students applying to an approved Off-Campus Program, such as any of our affiliated programs, the London Centre, or Senegal, are encouraged to apply for an Off-Campus Program Scholarship. These scholarships are supported through the generous donation of individuals and groups and awarded to applicants based on their eligibility and financial need.
Program-Specific Funding
Many program providers offer students their own scholarships and aid. Check with your program’s provider to see if you are eligible to apply for any scholarships directly through them.
Outside Scholarships
There are many outside sources of funding for study abroad applicants, and with a little bit of research you may find the perfect one.
