I'm a cultural anthropologist who specializes in transitional justice, historical memory, political anthropology, and cultural heritage. Specifically, my work is based in Eastern Europe in the small southeastern nation-state of Albania. On the margins of Europe and still in the throes of democratic transition following the failed European socialist project of the 20th century, Albania helps us interrogate on multiple levels what it means to be human in an increasingly globalized world, faced with the challenging legacies of the past and the continued hold of neoliberalism in this post-Cold War moment. In addition to introductory and qualitative methods courses in cultural anthropology, I teach topics courses on history and memory, human rights, Eastern Europe, health and migration, and science fiction.
